SURELY it's about time that using Body Mass Index as an indicator of whether people are too fat for specific jobs was scrapped.
The latest victim of this ridiculous yardstick is Maire Parker, a bus driver with 20 years' experience, who at 12 stone for her 4ft 11in height, was deemed unsuitable to work with bus company Translink because her BMI was too high.
Health, ability and realistic testing should always be enough to judge an individual's capabilities, not a "one size fits all" standard that cuts out commonsense.
