Funeral of popular Horwich primary school head

THE funeral of a popular headteacher who died suddenly will take place next Monday.

Glenys Evans, aged 57, died in hospital on April 1 while undergoing a routine endoscopy as an outpatient.

The cause of her death has not yet been established.

Mrs Evans had worked at Claypool School in Horwich since 1989, but had been a teacher in the borough since 1974, previously working at St Matthew's CE Primary, Little Lever, and Cherry Tree Primary, Farnworth.

A service will take place at Horwich Parish Church on Monday at noon, before committal at Overdale West Chapel at 1.30pm.

Mrs Evans, of Nevy Fold Avenue, Horwich, leaves a husband, Kerry, and sons Marcus, aged 25, and Morgan, aged 23.

Mourners are being asked to make donations, in lieu of flowers, to the National Osteoporosis Society or The Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

Mrs Evans made Claypool the great school it is and she will be sadly missed. What a terrible loss.

My thoughts are with the family, the lads who i was at school with and the father & husband who i was taught by.

I am so sorry to hear of this. I am sure the school and community will feel the loss greatly. She was a wonderful and inspiring teacher and head to my son, now in his final year of High School. Condolances to the family.
