Two Bolton women described their experiences working for the Voluntary Services Organisation, which is celebrating 50 years of helping people in poor communities across the world.
In the March 23 edition of The Bolton News, there was an article about Labour's election pledge to introduce free school meals. I read the comments by Cllr Hayes of the Lib Dems and Councillor Morgan Health, spokesman for the Conservatives, with great interest as both appeared to support Labour's pledge (with a little criticism added on).
IF children take up smoking at an early age, isn't it more likely that they've been exposed to cigarette smoke at home or while travelling in a car, rather than they've seen packets of cigarettes on show in a shop?
I HAVE read with interest the adverts put in your paper about the increase in precept from Horwich Council and it is strange that Cliff Morris has not checked what we provide that his Labour controlled council at Bolton doesn't for Horwich residents before placing it in the paper. Firstly the increase was agreed across party including the Labour and Conservative representatives! The amount, only equates to an increase of £3 per year (60p per week) on a band D property this increase has been made to help provide more money to help many of the voluntary groups who provide services to our community which are not provided by Bolton's Labour controlled Council!
I was saddened by the recent letter which criticised the role of the mayor and which also appeared to criticise our present Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Ronson.
It did not take long for all the prospective candidates to start complaining about biased views, supposed inaccuracies and generally castigating the other party, did it? (Your Views, April 14).
