I AM writing in response to an article that was featured in The Bolton News on Friday, March 21 - New Rules for Parking to Begin.

I live around the Chorley Old Road area of Bolton and I regularly walk with my baby in his pram around the local area. I have noticed that there are often two cars parked on the pavement outside a shop on Chorley Old Road. As the pavement is quite wide there, I can still continue to walk on the pavement with my pram.

I have spoken to traffic wardens on patrol in the area and asked for their advice on pavement parking, but they say that, because there are no parking restrictions on the pavement and no obstruction caused, they have every right to park on the pavement with all four wheels and no penalty is given, unless they are seen actually driving on to the pavement.

I've even queried the answer given to me by staff at the traffic department with the police and they agreed that there is no penalty given unless they are seen actually driving on to the pavement.

So, to all motorists in Bolton, don't worry about parking correctly within white lines on car parks or having a parking ticket that has just expired, find a pavement with no parking restrictions and park so that you are not obstructing anyone (if you can walk past with a pram and not scratch the car), you can legally park your four wheels of your car. So who needs a car parking space?
