Leaving the party was for the best

CONGRATULATIONS to Smithills councillor Richard Silvester for having the good sense to quit the discredited and incompetent Liberal Democrats.

On May 1, the electorate will have the opportunity to get rid of a few more Lib Dem councillors and I sincerely hope they do.

In the short time that the Lib Dems controlled the council, they brought chaos to the town with, among other things, the fortnightly bin collection fiasco. Now, with Labour in control of the council, we have weekly bin collections and a much improved service for collection of material for recycling. Labour has also introduced free access to leisure centres for the over-65s and free swimming for under-16s.

I for one will be voting Labour on May 1.
