Bumps turn roads into 'Wacky Races'

from driving over these unnecessary obstacles.

Perhaps it will take a test case in the courts to see whether the councils who put these humps in place are legally liable for any damage caused by constantly driving over them?

Sometimes when I am driving in an area with lots of humps and there are vehicles in front of me, it is as if we are in the "Wacky Races" or on a rollercoaster, because all I can see is a line of cars and vans in front and behind me, bouncing up and down over the series of humps.

It is even worse at night when it appears that vehicles coming towards you and those behind are flashing their lights until you realise that they are only going over the hump.

Please get rid of them before the back end of my AM I the only one who is getting the hump over Bolton's many road humps?

They are everywhere and, to be quite frank, the asphalt could be put to better use filling in the hundreds of potholes in Bolton's neglected streets.

As I understand it, humps were supposed to slow traffic down.

This primary function does not appear to be working as many cars drive through the gaps (where there are two humps) and many cars can pass over the smaller square humps without hindrance.

Those who are driving illegally don't usually bother reducing their excessive speed anyway.

So, as usual, the only people suffering from these humps are those law abiding citizens and emergency services, who have to use these humped roads every day.

It would be interesting to find out how many cars, not to mention taxis, ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles, have developed problems rather elderly car falls off or my suspension collapses completely and I am stuck, on the middle of a hump!

If we must have speed restrictions, I would argue that a series narrow chicanes might be a better use of council money and be less wearing on thousands of cars.
