Youngsters go fishing

YOUNGSTERS showed off their catch of the day at a fishing competition held to help beat summer holiday boredom.

Budding anglers have been at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries, in Slack Lane, Bradshaw, every Monday for the last six weeks.

Competition organiser, Darren Jones, said: “This has been perfect for the summer holidays. The kids have really taken to it. The weather hasn’t been great but that’s not put them off.

“Some of these youngsters are quite hyperactive and they run about like mad but when you put a fishing rod in their hands they’ll sit there for hours and not make a sound.”

One competitor, Tom Cunliffe, 16, of Halliwell, said: “I enjoy fishing, it chills me out and the rain doesn’t bother me. I’ll sit here whatever the weather."

Ryan Kirkman, aged 15, won the under-16s pole fishing competition and Carla Ackton, aged 11, won the under-12s event.

There is a dads’ and lads’ competition this Saturday starting at 9.30am.
