Woman jailed for attack on baby

3:20pm Saturday 30th August 2008

A WOMAN who caused brain and head injuries when she assaulted a baby has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Kerensa Bradburn, aged 35, of Rugby Road, Leigh, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, child cruelty and perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing.

She was sentenced yesterday at Liverpool Crown Court.

The baby, who was eight months old when the attack happened on September 24 last year, was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary, where tests showed the boy had suffered brain and head injuries.

Bradburn told police she had no involvement in the incident, and also claimed she had been assaulted and raped.

She later admitted the claims were false.

DC Joanne Kirkman said: “Throughout the investigation, Bradburn repeatedly lied to police until she was forced to own up and admit what she had done.

“I am pleased that justice has now been done.”
