Stowaways found hiding in lorry-load of nappies

TWO would-be illegal immigrants tried to smuggle themselves into the United Kingdom in a lorry-load of nappies bound for Bolton.

The Vietnamese men, who had hidden inside the Polish-registered lorry, were discovered last Wednesday.

They were found by UK Border Agency officers based in Calais and have been handed over to the French authorities.

The stowaways were discovered through the use of carbon dioxide probes.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said the lorry was bound for Bolton, but that they did not know the specific target for the delivery within the town.
