Commuters travelling in to work with one of Greater Manchester biggest operators today discovered fares had gone up.
The new prices, affecting First Bus adult single tickets, were introduced yesterday.
The new fares are: £1.10 to £1.20, £1.50 to £1.70, £1.80 to £2.00, £2.30 to £2.50, £2.90 to £3.20 and £4.10 to £4.50. Child and concessionary fares, plus FirstDay, FirstWeek FirstMonth remain unchanged.
Simon Bennett, network director for First in Greater Manchester, said: “Regrettably, the overall economic climate of rising costs has resulted in us having to adjust our fares with effect from Sunday.
“We have reviewed all of our internal processes to ensure we are efficient and to absorb some of the cost increases we face.
“Our plans for the future include additional resources to improve the reliability and punctuality of our services. Our investment in new and eco-friendly vehicles also continues as 200 low-floor, easy-access, double-deck vehicles costing £33 million are delivered into Greater Manchester by March, 2010.”
