A SCHOOL has received national recognition for its efforts in promoting learning throughout the community.
Rivington and Blackrod School in Horwich was one of just 11 schools across the country to receive a Specialist Schools and Academies Trust’s (SSAT) 2008 Futures Vision Tour Award.
It acknowledges the school’s work in building stronger links with the community.
Yesterday, the school showcased its work to education experts, including Sir James Hill, chairman of the SSAT.
Elizabeth Reid, chief executive of the SSAT, said: “I would like to congratulate these winning schools for their hard work and dedication in ensuring they are at the heart of their communities.
“Successful schools are central to the areas they serve and through innovative partnerships they help all young people to realise their potential and succeed.”
Tony Purcell, head teacher at Rivington and Blackrod, said: “This award recognises the commitment that we have to our local community.
“We look forward to sharing with others the tremendous developments and community projects that are taking place at the school.”
Areas recognised by the award include the development of the school’s vocational learning facilities and its provision for technology, which includes Rivi Studios — a modern television and radio studio — and the Powerwave Centre, which provides vocational courses.
