TRIBUTES have been paid to an engineer who contracted the terminal illness mesothelioma after coming into contact with asbestos.
Keith Rawlinson, aged 64, from Horwich, died on Christmas Day last year in Bolton Hospice, an inquest heard.
He worked for British Leyland for 20 years where, for the first 10 years, he regularly came into contact with asbestos dust, Bolton Coroner’s Court was told.
His son, Darren Rawlinson, aged 40, from Horwich thanked staff at Bolton Hospice, who looked after his father.
He added: “It came as a shock to all of us when we were told he had this illness.”
Histopathologist Dr David Bisset said Mr Rawlinson died from bronchial pneumonia caused by mesothelioma.
Recording his verdict, deputy coroner Alan Walsh said he died from an industrial disease.
