A BOLTON couple's 25th wedding anniversary has raised £400 for Hope Hospital.

Frank and Denise Greenhalgh, from Farnworth, raised the money by asking guests at a silver wedding party to make cash donations instead of bringing presents.

The party, at Hawkers Social Club in Gladstone Road, Farnworth, raised £100 alone from a game of stand-up bingo.

Surgeons at the Salford hospital saved Frank's life after he was seriously injured at work in April, 2004. Mr Greenhalgh, aged 57, lost a kidney when an electric buggy he was driving collided with a barrier at the University of Salford, piercing his abdomen.

Mrs Greenhalgh, aged 52, is undergoing tests along with their son Paul, aged 23, to see if their kidneys would be compatible if Mr Greenhalgh needs a donor for a future transplant.

"Frank was very lucky to survive," said Mrs Greenhalgh. "He wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the hospital.

"We're eternally grateful for all of their help and support and we felt this would be a great way of saying thank you." Mr Greenhalgh, who is managing without kidney dialysis at the moment, has to visit the hospital three times a year for check-ups.

With the £400 raised, the couple have decided to buy two televisions with video recorders for hospital patients.

"When Frank was recovering, we were trying to cheer him up and get him involved with things," said Mrs Greenhalgh.

"One of the things we did was to try to get him to watch TV, but there weren't enough sets in the hospital."
