Fun day restored at Bolton community centre

CELEBRATIONS to mark the completion of a £35,000 community centre project take place this weekend.

A bouncy slide, sumo suit wrestling, face paint and tug of war will be among the attractions at Bolton Grace Centre, in Somerset Road, on Sunday.

The centre's 100-year-old main building has been re-roofed, its timberwork has been repaired and damaged guttering replaced.

It houses Bolton Family Church, which bought the former United Reformed Church building in 2003. However, the centre had been badly damaged by dry rot and damp.

Rebuilding work was funded by the grants from English Heritage and the Veolia Environmental Trust, which awarded £36,535 under the Landfill Communities Fund.

The trust is funded by rubbish collection and disposal company Veolia Environmental Services.

Church minister Rob Coleman said: "This is a wonderful occasion to celebrate what has been achieved and to look ahead to further opportunities for this historic building."

The building will be opened at 1.45pm, with the fun starting at 2.30pm. There will be a cafe and barbecue.
