FREE table wine has been axed at this year's mayor making ceremony in a bid to prevent a repeat of drunken scenes which marred celebrations after last year's event.
Council leader Cliff Morris has told members of his Labour group to remember they are representing the town and urged them not to forget what happened.
After last year's event, staff at the Spinning Mule pub in Nelson Square said they had been verbally abused by a rowdy group of drinkers, which included a number of councillors.

The claims led to Cllr Morris launching an investigation during which he viewed CCTV footage from the pub, interviewed bar staff and spoke to councillors present.
He did not reveal his specific findings but did decide to report three councillors; Nick Peel, Sean Hornby and Jean Cottam, to the Standards Board for England.
They were later cleared of any wrongdoing, but action has still been taken this year to ensure there is no chance of a repeat of the reported drunken antics.
The annual mayor's inauguration takes place at the town hall on Wednesday. Councillors will be treated to a dinner and free booze to mark the inauguration of Cllr Anthony Connell as the borough's new First Citizen.
This year, however, there will be a limited amount of alcohol, no spirits, and no bottles left on tables. Wine will instead be served by waiting staff to prevent excessive drinking.
Cllr Morris said: "Obviously we don't want a repeat of last year's incidents. Everyone has been made aware of their behaviour."
He said measures would be taken to ensure no-one became too drunk.
"We're looking at how drinks are being served, amongst other things. We will not allow any bottles of drink to be taken out of the town hall, and there will be no bottles on tables.
"There will be alcohol but no spirits. We'll probably limit it as well - only so much will be available, then the bar will close."
Cllr Morris said he cannot be responsible for what councillors do after they leave the town hall, but he has warned them abou their conduct: "I've said to my group - remember what happened last year and remember that you are the face of the town."
