THE new president of the
University of Bolton's
Students' Union has
promised he will listen to
students by introducing an
open door policy.
Mark Higgins, aged 20, is
in the second year of his
BSc (Hons) in multimedia
and website development.
He said: "I put myself
forward because like other
students I questioned why
the union wasn't doing this
or that. So I decided to do
something about it and
stand for election."

Mark takes up his post as
the university undergoes
major changes. The
Chadwick campus will
close at the end of this
academic year with all
students moving on to the
Deane site. A new
students' union is in the
process of being built.
Mark, who is originally
from the West Midlands,
said: "I am very pleased to
have been elected
president during what is a
very exciting time for the
university. It is growing
quickly.
He added: "I want the
Students' Union to be
more student orientated
and their views listened to.
I want an open-door policy
where students know they
can get help and advice.
Students will be better
represented."
The newly elected
president added that
exciting plans were in the
pipeline for the opening of
the new Students' Union
building.
"There will be a grand
opening. This new building
will allow us to put on
many more events for the
students, which the old
building could not cope
with," he said.
