PHIL Burgess has been named as the new head of business development and marketing at construction firm Seddon.

Mr Burgess joined the Plodder Lane company from capital works, regeneration and support service operation Willmott Dixon where he was sales and marketing manager.

He will now drive new business development across the UK for Seddon, securing opportunities with existing and new clients and seeking out new markets.

The £200 million turnover construction business completed its formal separation from Seddon Group as part of a reorganisation of ownership.

The newly-independent business — which remains in the ownership of the Seddon family — is placed to take advantage of the resurgent market.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the company at such an exciting time and look forward to working with the Seddon family and the directors to develop new opportunities while drawing on the firm’s traditional strengths.

“Despite the challenges faced by the construction sector over the past few years, Seddon has both retained its traditional family values and, at the same time, planned for the future, leaving the company in a superb position to grow in a recovering market.”

Seddon managing director, John Seddon, said: “Phil has an impressive track record of securing business opportunities in the public and private sectors, winning major frameworks, development-led schemes, regeneration and specialist public service schemes.

“I’m delighted to have attracted someone of his calibre to join us and drive our business development and marketing strategy at this key time.”
