A PUB is planning to showcase its beers — by moving its cellar upstairs next to the lounge where customers will be able to view the barrels on display.

Real ale enthusiasts will be able to watch staff at the Brewhouse in Blackburn Road, Dunscar, when they change barrels in a room off the main lounge separated only by a glass viewing window.

And bosses say if customer are interested they can help staff change barrels — and even ask the pub to order their favourite cask conditioned beer.

The new display cellar is part of a £40,000 refurbishment scheme for the Blackburn Road pub and replaces the small brewing plant which helped kick-start Dunscar Bridge Brewery’s range of beers in 2010.

The original brewery plant has been sold to another micro brewer — leaving room for the display cellar.

Dunscar Bridge Brewery has since expanded and its beers are now produced in a much bigger brewing plant at its head office just half a mile away.

The Brewhouse is aiming to appeal to more cask ale fans by installing as many as 15 conditioned beers on the bar.

Under the refurbishment plan, a corner of the pub will be set aside for traditional pub pursuits, including darts, dominoes and card games. According to operations director Josh Lee, the aim is to help promote cask beers produced by local micro-breweries, as well as offering the company’s own popular range of Dunscar Bridge Brewery beers.

Mr Lee said: “We hope our feature cask display cellar will demonstrate the care we take to keep our beers in the best condition.

“We want our real ale customers to feel involved and we will listen very carefully to their views.

“If they have a favourite cask beer and we can get hold of it we will do our best to put it on the bar.”

The general facelift for the Brewhouse will include new flooring, new decor and a revamped menu.

It will close for refurbishment on Monday and reopen again on Friday, December 6.
