A SHOP used by Bolton’s horse-riding community has closed because its owner says the overheads were too high.

The door was closed at Tack And Feed in Blackburn Road, Egerton, for the final time at the weekend.

But owner Deborah Brookes is promising to continue trading, by going online and using Ebay to sell her equestrian equipment.

She is now located in a smaller unit at the back of the existing shop, but with no shop frontage.

“I have had problems with my bank,” said Ms Brookes. “They have made it difficult for me whenever I have gone slightly overdrawn.

“It is complicated by the fact that when customers make card payments, it takes three days for them to go through.

“The bank has become so inflexible I have looked for alternative banking, but I have been unable to do it yet.

“I am determined to keep my business going.”

Ms Bookes had been running the shop since 2011 and has toughed out the worst of the recession.

“The business has been up and down,” she said. “But I have managed to keep the wolf from the door.

“For the time being, the best thing for me to do is to lower my business costs by not having a shop.”
