A CHARITY football tournament that mixes business with sport is set to give a boost to funds for the Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

The five-a-side football tournament is being held at the USN Bolton Arena tomorrow, from 2pm, and involves teams from local companies.

It has been organised by Bolton company Key Control Security Services and it’s the second year the firm has staged it.

Last year, the event kicked off Key Control’s silver sponsorship at the Arena and attracted eight teams.

A team from William Hare’s emerged winners and the Chartered Surveyor team were runners up, but the tournament also raised £600 for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, where Key Control are also patrons. Managing director of Key Control, Phil Thompson, who has been a football referee for more than 30 years and is president of Bury Referees Society said: “This year, we want to raise £1,000 for the club.

“We already have 16 teams entering, including all eight from last year. The arena is a great venue and if the commitment and quality of football is half as good as last year, it will be another great success which we hope to continue for many years to come.”

Teams taking part in the tournament include DRL, William Hare, Stateside Foods, Bring Digital, Arena Creative, Love Energy Saving, Holiday Inn, Vinden Partnership, Stephensons, Forbes, Dewhurst Torevell, Chartered Surveyor, USN Bolton Arena, George Cox and Wilds Accountants.

There are refreshments available during the tournament and a buffet and presentation afterwards.

Laura Porter, the Arena’s Business to Business Services Manager, said: “We’re really looking forward to seeing the teams and their supporters. It was a very enjoyable event last year and it looks as though this year’s will be an even greater success.”
