BROTHERS Masood and Mohammed Patel are planning to turn their American-style chicken wing outlets into a national franchise.

The pair opened Mash’s Wing Ranch from a shop in St Helens Road, Daubhill, nearly 20 years ago, and then launched another in Derby Street soon after.

Masood, aged 46, and Mohammed, aged 43, have followed that by opening a Mash’s Wing Ranch in Blackburn and another is in the offing in Preston.

The restaurant and takeaway setup, which boasts six flavours of grilled chicken wings, is modelled on a USA eatery concept.

“It is not something which can be easily replicated,” said Mohammed. “As well as the six flavours unique to us, there are another six in the pipeline.”

The brothers, who attended Deane High School, are looking for franchisees to help quicken up their expansion.

The Patels are aiming to sell territories to other business people and are also looking to pass on “master franchises”.

“The UK is a blank canvas,” said Mohammed. “Our aim is to become a national franchise and we want people who share our ambition to come on board.”

The ranch got its name from Masood’s nickname, Mash, who originally qualified as a car mechanic after leaving college, while his younger brother graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in local government and politics.

“I ended up working in sales for a long time,” said Masood.

“But after about seven years in retail, I found I wasn’t getting much satisfaction from working for someone else and I wanted my own business.

“I had worked in takeaways and pizza places as a youngster and we were interested in business and the food and service industry.”

Their father, Yusuf, who came from India in 1962 to bring up his family in Bolton, found them their first shop and they have built their business model effectively.
