INTREPID duo Lesley Goodall and Jo Miller had plenty to make a noise about when they celebrated 10 years since striking out on their own to launch their environmental services company.

The co-owners of Miller Goodall Environmental Services Ltd founded the firm after spotting a gap in the consultancy market while job-sharing as environmental health officers for Salford City Council.

“We noticed we were struggling to get really good guidance from consultants,” said 46-year old Ms Goodall.

“We both had young families — three children each — and we realised there were very few people with the experience and expertise we had.”

Ms Goodall and Ms Miller, also aged 46, now run a team of 10 people who are specialists in noise control and air quality.

They will typically act as consultants for developers ahead of submissions for planning approval to local authorities.

But they also have the additional responsibility of dealing with accountants, web designers and health and safety from their base in Turton Road, Bradshaw.

“We knew we could work successfully together because we job-shared at Salford,” said Ms Miller, who is also proud of the fact that they are the only company run by women which is in the Association of Noise Consultants.

Miller Goodall’s key clients include Peel Holdings, town planning specialist Steven Abbott Associates, Barnfield construction and Bolton architects Bradshaw Gas and Hope.

Staff and clients enjoyed a 10-year anniversary party at the Victoria Inn — also known as Fanny’s — in Markland Hill.

“It was nice for us to get together in an informal atmosphere to celebrate the milestone,” said Ms Miller.
