STAFF at an Asda store in Bolton have created the north west’s biggest Christmas jumper.

The jumper, which measures approximately two metres in length by four metres in width with the arms outstretched, was made by workers at Asda in Astley Bridge.

It was put together with the aim of promoting Christmas Jumper Day, a campaign aimed at raising funds for Save The Children, a charity which helps disadvantaged children across the UK.

Asda will stock George’s range of Save the Children Christmas jumpers for men, women and children.

Its workers will hold various fundraising activities and will wear jumpers for Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, when people will be asked to donate £2 to the charity, or £1 for children.

Christine Baldwin, community life champion of Asda in Astley Bridge, said: “Last year we raised hundreds of pounds through our Christmas appeal but we want to smash that amount this Christmas for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

“Our colleagues are getting ready to don the wool and lead the way, I hope our customers will join in the fun and support this great charity.”

Jonny Kirkham, store manager of Asda in Astley Bridge, added: "We're asking our customers to get in the festive spirit and help us raise as much as possible for a very worthy cause and are looking forward to spreading the jumper joy this Friday."

Now in its third year, Christmas Jumper Day has raised £1.6million to date.

The exclusive range of jumpers is available to buy in Asda stores nationwide and online at George.com.

Save the Children works in more than 120 countries, providing support for health, education, protection, disaster relief and more to children across the globe.
