BOLTON'S unsung heroes are set to be honoured at a glitzy awards ceremony.

The annual awards — hosted by Mecca Bingo and sponsored by The Best Of Bolton — honour nice neighbours, perfect parents, cracking carers, and a whole host of other local heroes.

The Mecca Bingo Awards 2015 are set to be the biggest and best to date, with 10 different awards this year, including Local Hero of the Year; Parent of the Year; Friend of the Year; the Good Neighbour Award; Carer of the Year; Grandparent of the Year; Pub of the Year; Loo of the Year; Local Business of the Year; and Charity Fundraiser of the Year.

The Bolton News is once again supporting the event and we want you to nominate your own local heroes for the awards.

Will Darbyshire-Clarke, Mecca's membership manager in Bolton, said: "The awards are great recognition for all the unsung heroes in Bolton.

"We are celebrating everything that is great about the town."

The awards are now in their fourth year and are being supported by a host of local businesses, including Global Interiors, Super Stars Nursery, Queensbrook Nursery, Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme, Kip McGrath Education Centre, Fidgets Soft Play Centre, Metro Taxis, Superior Design, Scruffy Monkey, Business Rescue, The Best of Bolton, The Bolton News and Party North West.

Mr Darbyshire-Clarke added: "We have thousands of customers come through our doors in Bolton every week. This is our chance to be at the heart of the local community.

"We are always fundraising for different causes and this year we have been supporting Carers Trust so the Carer of the Year award fits in well with this.

"Often these unsung heroes are sat in our venue enjoying a game of bingo but we have no idea about all the amazing things they do — from being a carer or even just being a great neighbour or a good friend to someone in need.

"This is our chance to recognise that."
