GUESTS dug deep into their pockets and purses to help the Bolton News’ Charity of the Year – Donate £1 for Dementia.

The campaign is being run by Bolton NHS Charitable Fund and aims to raise £200,000 to make the Royal Bolton Hospital more dementia-friendly for patients.

Charitable fundraiser Andy Lee introduced a poignant short film made to highlight the campaign.

The eight-minute video portrayed a confused dementia patient wandering around a hospital trying to find her way to the toilet and back to her hospital bed.

Although the part was played by an actress, she told how no one was immune from dementia.

Many in the audience were visibly moved by it, as dementia is a condition which is close to the hearts of thousands of families whose loved ones have been affected by it.

More than £1,700 was raised on the night.

The money will go towards paying for special equipment for the hospital including easy to understand signs, brighter or softer lighting, memory boxes and a 1960s themed communal lounge.
