THE Market Place scheme has won yet another award.

The Bolton town-centre development won Best Large Commercial Building at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) North West Awards night.

At the ceremony, held at the Emirates Old Trafford, over 530 guests from the construction industry and local authority building control got together to celebrate building excellence in the North West.

The LABC Awards see buildings judged not for their architectural beauty, but for their construction and technical merit. The judges were looking for innovative and creative solutions, as well as building control professionalism that results in safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.

Market Place was nominated by Bolton Council Buildings Control department following the recent £20 million redevelopment of the centre.

As regional winners, the Market Place will be entered into the National Grand Finals at the Westminster Park Plaza in London on November 10.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “It is great to see the Market Place win yet another award. There is no doubt that the transformation of the building has been managed superbly and the end result is extremely impressive. It is rapidly becoming a popular destination for shoppers and people who want to enjoy their leisure time in beautiful, modern surroundings, whether that is to eat, drink or watch a film. We are delighted to have been involved in such a successful venture.”

Nikki Wilson-Cook, Centre Manager said: “We’re really excited to see that all the work put in to improve Market Place is continuing to be recognised and rewarded, not just in the retail industry, but now within the construction industry too. This can only mean great things for Bolton as a whole and we’re really looking forward to the finals later in the year.”
