A SCHOOLGIRL has fought off entries from hundreds of other children to win the ‘Design a Market Logo’ competition.

The Bolton News, in association with Bolton Market, launched the competition to tie in with this years ‘Love Your Local Market’ campaign.

Madison Worthington, a Year F pupil at St Mary's Primary School, beat competition from around the borough and her design will now be displayed in Bolton Market.

Madison said she felt ‘shocked’ to have won and that she had no idea that she would win.

She said: “Our teachers told us to focus on fruit and vegetables for the design. I thought my friend’s drawings were better than mine. I didn’t even think mine was good!”

The winner of the competition received a £50 gift voucher for The Entertainer toy shop.

Madison said she didn’t know what she was going to spend the voucher on, but she knew she wanted to spend it all at once.

Peter Entwistle, from Bolton Market, said: “We sell lots of different things at Bolton Market so we wanted it to be quite neutral. We have over 180 independent businesses so it’s good that the design didn’t focus on any particular aspect of the market.”

Madison’s design is to be reproduced on a 20ft banner to display inside Bolton Market.
