A RESERVOIR up in the hills to the north of Bolton will be going under the hammer for at least £10,000.

Dean Mills Reservoir, off Coal Pit Road in Smithills, will be sold at an auction held at the Macron on Tuesday, March 20.

The "unique" lot has been listed at a guide price between £10,000 and £20,000.

Stuart Cooper, director at Roger Hannah And Co and Auction House North West, said it was a difficult one for the auctioneers to come up with a guide price.

He said: "It is certainly unique. It is one of those properties that was certainly difficult to put a value on.

"So we have put it up for auction and it will find its true value depending on what someone has a requirement for.

"It could be a local landowner who wants somewhere to float their boat or someone looking for somewhere to fish.

"It is just for someone who has got a bit of spare cash who want to use it for their own leisure or somewhere to get away from it all.

"The views up there are stunning, you can see all the way to the coast, to North Wales and to Manchester."

The site consists of 5.5 acres of water together with a further plot of approximately 1.5 acres of moorland.

The reservoir is about one mile to the south east of Winter Hill.

It does not have any roads for vehicles nearby and is accessed by a footpath off Coal Pit Road.

The auction will be held in the Platinum Suite at the Macron at 2pm on March 20.
