THE world’s biggest travel website has given a Bolton businessman its seal of approval.

A hotel owned by Jeremy Jones has been given the Certificate of Excellence 2013 from TripAdvisor.

It received a 62 per cent overall approval rating by guests using the TripAdvisor website, ranking it as the best hotel in the area.

The hotel, Best Western Charnwood in Blyth, Nottinghamshire, was bought just before the New Year by Bolton’s Convivial Hotels company, which was formed by Mr Jones.

It operates two hotels, the Charnwood and Rossett Hall Hotel in Rossett, North Wales.

Mr Jones also owns several companies involved in the licensed and hospitality trade, including Bolton’s Dunscar Bridge Brewery, The Thomas Egerton and Brewhouse pubs, and the Bleachworks members’ bar, among others.

Gary Targett, Convivial Hotels area manager, said: “We welcome this accolade because the online reviews are read by lots of potential guests who use TripAdvisor to select good hotels like the Best Western Charnwood.

“Now we are looking forward to the future with a view to more investment and expanding the conference and wedding business.”

Hotel general manager Mark Tulett added: “It’s fantastic that we have been awarded this certificate so soon after Convivial Hotels took over. It means we must be doing things right.

“It’s down to the whole team working very hard and it shows we are taking the hotel in the right direction.”

TripAdvisor claims it is the world’s largest travel site with more than 200 million online visitors each month.

Visitors write reviews and give star ratings based on their experiences at hotels, restaurants or other venues they visit.

People who are thinking about staying at a hotel or eating in a restaurant will often look at venue ratings on TripAdvisor before making a decision.

Mr Jones has been expanding his business group in a number of ways in recent months, including the launch of Dunscar Bridge Brewery tours for parties of visitors and upgrades to the Thomas Egerton Pub, where a new manager, Rob McLintock, has also been installed.
