Electrical firm is wired for success

AN electrical contractor who set up just four years ago now directly employs 15 people and has a turnover of £2.2 million a year.

Danny Lowe, aged 28, one of three directors of DL Electrical Contractors Ltd, is on target for £3.5 million turnover this year and has ambitions to hit £10 million within two to three years.

The company is thriving, despite the economic recession and stiff competition, and Mr Lowe is keen to let everybody know the business is sound with bulging order books.

Following a story last week we incorrectly reported that the company had gone out of business and we are pleased to put the record straight and state that the opposite is true.

In fact DL Electrical Contractors Ltd, based at Empire House, Manchester Road, Westhoughton, is going from strength to strength.

The company works in retail refitting, industrial installations, apartments, schools and universities, control wiring and fire alarms.

Over its short life the company has established excellent contacts with many clients, including Tesco, Aldi, the Co-Operative Group, Bolton Council, St Helens Council and Salford and Manchester Universities. DL Electrical is a Framework contractor for Co-op Stores and is one of three companies which works on Co-op store refits up and down the country. One major project was a 15-week £160,000 Co-op store refit in the Shetland Isles.

Other huge projects including a £420,000 mechanical and electrical refit of 37 flats in Manchester city centre, a 10-week £450,000 refit of the CIS Tower and an eight-week £200,000 refit of the orthopaedics outpatient department at North Manchester General Hospital, and has other major contracts in the pipeline.

Mr Lowe said: “We set up the business four years ago because I always had an ambition to have my own company. In that first year we turned over £460,000.”

The vision has succeeded and on large projects Mr Lowe offers work to up to 50 local sub contractors.

He makes sure that wherever possible work is offered to local people and DL Electrical currently has seven local youngsters training as apprentices.

The company sets itself high standards and many of its contracts are repeat or recommended business because of the high quality of work carried out by a dedicated workforce.

Business development manager David Tranter added: “I have worked for big organisations and what I love about this company is the quality and attitude of those who do the work which earns us the money.

“They are very hard working, they develop good relationships with the clients, clean up after themselves and work hard to get the job completed on time to budget.

“We have a really good team here, we all work together and support each other and we all know what each other is doing.

“And because we are a small company we can react quickly to clients’ needs and I would say we are 95 per cent better than other bigger companies out there.”
