Balfour, the UK’s biggest building firm, hopes to make progress this year despite the recession.
The company, which celebrated its centenary this year and joined the FTSE 100 for the first time, is seen as more resilient due to its broad geographical and business spread, and strong public sector contracts.
It has benefited from work including a £400 million road project in Nottinghamshire, a £170 million hospital contract in Fife, and a £200 million school scheme in London.
