John Lewis sales have been hit by hot weather and sporting events, which have overshadowed the start of its summer clearance.
The retail chain’s latest weekly sales fell by 3.7 per cent to £51 million, following an improvement of 2.2 per cent in the previous week.
The weather had the opposite impact at Waitrose, the grocery arm of the John Lewis Partnership, which had a 10 per cent rise in sales over the week.
