Nightclub booms to buck recession

WHILE many nightclubs are falling victim to the recession, one of Bolton’s most popular haunts still has punters queueing at the door.

The owners of J2 have been working hard to make sure that they continue to thrive in difficult economic conditions.

Competitive measures at the Nelson Square venue have included slashing the price of entrance tickets by up to 50 per cent.

Director Carol Rialas, aged 35, said: “We want to help people enjoy their nights out so we reduced ticket prices from £8 to £4 before midnight and from £10 to £6 after midnight. We also offer various promotions, such as all-inclusive student nights on Wednesdays and drinks offers within licensing guidelines.

“We are doing well by adapting to changing circumstances and we haven’t seen the numbers of clubbers going down.

“I would say we are operating around 20 per cent up on last year’s turnover.

“We are going through the club and refurbishing it level by level and we never let it get run-down.”

The cost-cutting measures seem to have worked, with up to 1,200 revellers packing out the club each weekend.

J2’s Platinum Lounge is also attracting its fair share of VIPs, with footballers and soap stars often found sampling the exclusive atmosphere.

TV’s Dirty Sanchez are also due to appear at the club in August.

And J2 is also a favourite with Bolton-born TV host Vernon Kay, who is throwing a huge bash at the club tonight.

The star will be celebrating receiving an honorary degree from the University of Bolton today.

Kay will be partying the night away with family and friends at the club’s Attic and Platinum Lounge.

He is also expected to take to the decks along with Radio One DJ pal Jaguar Skillz.

The club, established as J2 in 2002, was formerly known as Bar Juice, before it was revamped with the new name, new decor and state of the art sound and lighting systems.

J2 has a total of seven bars on five levels and offers a variety of music styles, from chill-out to the latest R&B and clubland mixes.
