A FORMER customer service adviser who joined Bury’s O2 call centre a decade ago has now been appointed its new head.
Saj Umarji takes over at the helm of the busy customer service centre in Dumers Lane which is Bury’s largest private employer.
The 37-year-old can rightly claim to know the call centre industry from top to bottom. He joined O2 as a customer service adviser and enjoyed a steady rise to the top.
After nine years at Bury, when he was senior operations manager, Mr Umarji moved to O2’s Preston Brook customer service site as head of contact centre operations.
As the new head at Bury, he looks after more than 1,300 staff, responsible for O2 pay and go and Tesco mobile customer service.
He said: “Some people still view call centres as being like old sweatshops. But we are constantly looking to how we can improve the environment for our people. We want O2 people to look on it as a long term career.”
His aims are to further improve the working environment, build on existing strong bonds with the local community and invite businesses into the site with a view to forming close working relationships, O2 is sponsoring the Community Award category in the Bolton and Bury Business Awards to be held at the Reebok on June 10.
