Recruitment experts move to historic home

A GROWING recruitment firm has moved to new offices in an historic Bolton street.

Staff UK Bolton, which is celebrating its 18th anniversary, asked the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, Cllr Noel Spencer and Mrs Alice Spencer, to officially open its new base in Mawdsley Street.

The firm was launched in 1993 by managing director Christine Green and now has 17 members of staff who will be based in the restored building.

Mrs Green said: “This move to this office is a demonstration of our continuing success and commitment to providing a truly professional recruitment service in Bolton.

“We own the Mawdsley Street building and are proud to have restored it to its former glory. The whole team is excited about prospects.” Michael Homes, the firm’s secretary, said: “We have funded the £70,000 renovation of Mawdsley Terrace ourselves with no grant or third-party support.

We think that’s a real achievement in the current climate.”

Many of the Mawdsley Street building’s original features there have been restored and photographer Barry Mellor has provided some archive black and white images for the new offices.

The building is thought to have been built in the mid-1800s as three separate houses. It was later bought by the Greenhalgh family and used as barristers’ chambers during the early 1900s. The town’s former county court was based where Harvey’s Bar is now located.

Mawdsley Street was designated a conservation area in 1970 and is one of Bolton’s best preserved historic streets. Redevelopment projects nearby include the former Pack Horse Hotel student flats and St Andrew’s Court.

Staff UK provides permanent and temporary staff for industrial, distribution, commercial, production and technical businesses.

These include factory and manufacturing workers, drivers, clerks, typists, receptionists, sales, marketing and management roles.

Its clients include employers of all sizes across the North West and it handles the whole recruitment process, from establishing clients’ requirements through to post-placement support.

The firm is a member of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and in 2007 it won the Start-Up Business category of the Bolton and Bury Business Awards organised by The Bolton News.

The new office was previously home to Adam F Greenhalgh, now known as AFG Law. Staff UK was previously based at Bark Street East in Bolton.
