TWO Bolton teachers are taking their lessons around the globe — and business is booming.

Bosses from 10 Ticks say their maths worksheets are used by 55 per cent of UK secondary schools and its resources are used by an estimated two million students across the world.

It was founded in 2000 by teachers Ian Fisher and his wife, Lynne.

Mr Fisher previously taught in Little Lever while his wife taught in Lancashire.

Based at Bolton Enterprise Centre, in Washington Street, the firm is targeting India for future expansion and making meet overseas partners and check on progress.

The 24-year-old former Smithills High School and Bolton North College student studied a degree in criminology and then took a masters degree in business enterprise at Manchester University.

He previously worked for Recover Health Care at Bolton’s Evans Enterprise Centre.

Mr Wood is studying a Chartered Institute of Public Relations course at Leeds Metropolitan University.

He said: “10 Ticks began by offering maths worksheets, started selling licenses to others and later created an online learning service. It agreed a deal with publisher Heinemann in South Africa which created interest in lots of other countries.

“With teachers moving abroad, the whole thing spread globally and the internet created more demand.” The firm has five members of staff, including Mr Wood.

Its overseas business partners adapt the firm’s maths courses to the national curriculum of each country, as is being done in Australia and Malaysia.

Mr Wood said: “We currently work in countries including the UK, Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. India is next on our list.

“A lot of parents buy packages for children aged five and continue with them until their children take their GCSEs, aged 16.”
