TWO private-hire drivers have been suspended following allegations of sexual assault.
The incidents were unrelated but were committed by Bolton drivers in the early hours of the morning, on female passengers.
One case has been thrown out by police due to a lack of evidence but officers continue to investigate the other.
Bolton police and Bolton Council Licensing Unit recently made the suspensions.
Sgt John Boyce, from Bolton Partnership and Licensing Team, said: “These incidents are very rare and it's exceptional to be dealing with two incidents within a few weeks of each other.
“However the public have a right to feel safe when in private hire vehicles.
“Drivers are subject to continuing disclosure and baring service checks, formerly known as CRB checks and there is an ongoing requirement for drivers to continue to demonstrate their good character.
“Police and Bolton Council Licensing Unit work together and these suspensions are undertaken in the interest of public safety.”
The suspensions have no connection to the arrests of five men on Thursday on suspicion of rape and sexual assault of a teenage girl.
