A MUGGING victim has warned people to be on their guard after being robbed in a street robbery in Great Lever.

Nina Watson, aged 33, from Tyldesley, was walking home from a work-out class at Little Lever School when she was approached by a man near the junction of Green Lane and Lever Edge Lane.

She fought back against her attacker, but he managed to escape with her new Nokia Lumia phone.

Ms Watson said: “I initally heard his feet banging on the ground.

“Then he was just fighting with me and I knocked him on the ground.

“He wasn’t saying anything, so I didn’t know what he was doing, but then he told me to give him my phone and took it off me.”

Ms Watson was left with a a sore wrist and a cut on her hand.

She said that she was shocked that two families and a woman drove past the incident while it was taking place, but did not stop.

She got eventually got help from a resident who lives nearby.

Ms Watson, who is training to be a personal trainer, said: “I want other people to be careful and on their guard if they are walking alone.

“I had my headphones on, but I could hear him coming from behind.” She said the incident has knocked her confidence.

The robbery is not the first time Ms Watson has been targeted, as she was mugged in October last year in Manchester Road.

A police spokesman confirmed that officers attended an incident in Lever Edge Lane at 9pm on Tuesday, April 1.

He said that a woman told officers that she was grabbed by a man and her phone was stolen.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery, and has since been bailed until April 14.

Er where in the report does The Bolton News suggest that Little Lever School is in Great Lever? The report states that "Nina Watson, aged 33, from Tyldesley, was walking home from a work-out class at Little Lever School when she was approached by a man near the junction of Green Lane and Lever Edge Lane.". Ms. Watson could have been walking for example from Bury, Radcliffe, Kearsley or Farnworth. Those places aren't in Great Lever either, but the fact remains that Great lever is where this mugging took place.

How terrible for this woman. It is a shame that people went passed and did not intervene, but sadly in this day and age people are too scared to get involved. I know someone a few years who went to help a woman who appeared to be being attacked in Leverhulme Park. When he ran up to her and the "attacker" it turned out the "attacker" was actually with this woman and the have a go hero was mugged and beaten almost senseless!!! Sad sign of the times but you have to look out for yourself sometimes. Hope she is ok though.
