A MAN kicked and threw bottles at his best friend after he saw him kissing his ex-girlfriend.

Father-of-one Dale Wooton carried out the “sustained and serious attack” on Damon Entwistle in the garden of the Canary Tavern in Little Lever.

Bolton Crown Court heard how the 23-year-old, who was drunk, “saw red and lost control” after seeing the two together.

CCTV footage showed Wooton, of Ulleswater Close, Little Lever, jump on to the bench that Mr Entwistle was sitting on, before he knocked him to the ground and delivered a series of kicks and punches.

He was then seen to throw three bottles at Mr Entwistle before he again knocked him to the ground, punching and kicking him.

The attack continued as Wooton followed his victim into the toilet and was seen on the CCTV footage to emerge with no shirt on.

Judge Timothy Clayson said: “The footage demonstrates a very persistent and sustained attack by you, when you were clearly jealous and angry because of a kiss between your friend and former partner.

“You and the victim are very fortunate that the attack did not result in extremely serious injuries for him — it could very easily have done.”

The court heard that Wooton, who pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm, had no previous convictions and had since reconciled with Entwistle, who provided a reference in support of the defendant’s character.

Judge Clayson said that the nature and extent of the attack meant that an immediate custodial sentence was the only option.

Wooton was jailed for 14 months.
