POLICE have swooped to arrest three Bolton Wanderers fans for their part in fights which broke out at the Whites’ opening match of the season at Watford.

The men, aged 21, 29 and 40, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after a joint investigation from Greater Manchester Police and Hertfordshire Police.

Officers also wish to speak to eight other Bolton fans about their part in the disorder.

The match at Watford’s Vicarage Road ground on August 9 was won 3-0 by the Hertfordshire club, while Wanderers remain winless after six games of the campaign.

A Bolton Wanderers spokesman said: “We are doing everything we can to cooperate with the police over this matter.”

He also said the club had nothing more to say at this time.

Six Watford fans were also arrested last month for their part in trouble that broke out in Market Street, Watford, before the Sky Bet Championship clash.

Reports at the time suggested that up to 30 people could have been involved in disorder, with no one reported to be injured.

Two men, aged 40 and 46, from Watford, a 19-year-old from South Oxhey and an 18-year-old from Bricket Wood have been arrested and bailed.

A 17-year-old from Croxley Green and a 17-year-old from Watford were also arrested and bailed.

They have been banned from attending football matches while enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information about the disorder should contact Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
