KNIFE-wielding robbers escaped on push bikes after grabbing a till from a Leigh shop.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, walked into Maine off licence on Chapel Street and demanded money at 8.20pm on Friday, December 5.

One of the men grabbed the till and both ran out before getting onto push bikes and riding off behind the shop in the direction of Widdow Street.

Zara Hafiz, who was working in the shop at the time, said: "It happened so quickly. It was all over in five minutes.

"I was in the back and I heard the door go. I came out and there were two men in the shop behind the counter.

"I was about to go forward when I saw the knife and just stayed back.

"It was really scary - nothing like that has ever happened to me before."

One of the men was wearing yellow gloves and a dark coloured Adidas hoodie with the hood, which had three stripes that went across the head, up. The other wore white gloves and dark clothing.

Det Con Andy Partington said: “I would ask anyone who may have seen two men go into the shop and leave with a till to contact police.

“We believe they left their bikes in the street next to the shop before riding away.”
