A WOMAN has died after being stabbed in the chest in Tyldesley.

Police have launched an investigation after a 43-year-old woman was found with stab wounds at an address in Lord Street in Gin Pit Village at 4.30am this morning.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

Police attended after they were called by the North West Ambulance Service, who took the victim to hospital, where she died a few hours later.

A Home Office post mortem is yet to take place.

Det Insp Graham Atherton said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I would like to reassure residents that there is no danger to the community and we believe this is an isolated incident and would urge anyone who may have seen something to contact us.”
