A DISMANTLED sofa, a fridge freezer, a toilet, a bath and a sink have been dumped by fly-tippers in a Great Lever street.

One resident said it looked like someone had "done a house renovation in the street" after the rubbish was dumped last Thursday.

Bolton Council has now launched an investigation as part of its "war on rubbish".

Philip Blunt, aged 41, said: “It was about 7.30pm on Thursday. It was nice and dark, the perfect time for this kind of thing.

“I was in the living room and my mum was upstairs. She came down when she heard a big noise and then a car pulling away.

“When we went outside we saw a huge pile of rubbish blocking the whole of the back street.”

Neither Mr Blunt or his mother managed to see who had dumped the rubbish.

Mr Blunt added: “There was a whole load of stuff. Bits of toilets, sinks, a fridge freezer and what looks like bits of a sofa.

“It looks like someone’s done a house renovation in the back street. There was a bath but that’s gone.

“The first thing we did was contact the council but they said it could take weeks to investigate. We don’t know if it will be cleared before then.”

He added: “It’s their rubbish, why can’t they just take it to the tip like everyone else.

“We will get rats coming round here because of what they’ve done."

Bolton Council said officers would investigate this week and look for evidence of who is responsible.

A council spokesman said: “Fly-tipping is absolutely unacceptable and we take it extremely seriously.

“We will be investigating this case and do everything we can to track down the culprits. If you see anyone fly-tipping please contact us on 01204 336632.”
