A TRIAL date has been set for a man accused of planting a hoax bomb in Bolton town centre.
Helmet Ahmed, aged 29, of Derby Street, Daubhill, was charged with the offence after parts of the town centre had to be evacuated on Wednesday November 5 when a suspicious package was found in Queen Street.
Police carried out a controlled explosion and a large area of the town centre was cordoned off, with Greater Manchester Police issuing a statement thanking the Bolton public for their patience on the day.
Appearing at Bolton Crown Court today, Ahmed entered a plea of not guilty to one count of placing an article with intent.
He was informed by Judge Peter Davies that his trial will take place on April 20 but told the court case may take place in Manchester and not Bolton for legal reasons.
