A PENSIONER has been robbed at gunpoint in his own home.

The 78-year-old man was at home in Halliwell when someone knocked at the door.

When he answered, two men claiming to be police officers pushed past him and led him into the lounge.

One of the men then pulled out a handgun and forced him to stay in the lounge while his partner searched the house.

The terrified victim opened a window and tried to escape and shout for help, but he was unable to get away.

The two men left shortly afterwards, stealing cash and other property, fleeing through the back door.

Police are now appealing for anybody with information to come forward and the victim has offered £1,000 of his own money as a reward for any information that leads to the men being convicted.

The incident happened at about 11.30am on Thursday, March 26, but police did not say where exactly the incident happened.

The first man was about 5ft 10in tall, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a long-sleeved black top with grey around the collar and a black balaclava with grey around the eyes.

Det Con Pam Chandler said: “The victim suffered a terrifying ordeal at the hands of these two thugs after which he was very shook up and understandably so.

“Although his attempts to call for help were unsuccessful, he was very quick to contact the police and I would like to pay tribute to him for the assistance that he has given us throughout this investigation.

“We are very keen to speak to anybody with information about what happened, whether it be something they have heard or if they actually know who the offenders are.”

Anybody with information can contact police on 0161 8565619 or 0161 8565608, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
