POLICE investigating a collision between a taxi and an 18-year-old woman have put up a notice at the scene asking for witnesses to get in touch.

Almost three weeks have passed since the reveller was struck in Nelson Square at about 3.10am.

A private hire taxi driver had been parked outside The Bar and, as it set off, the car struck the teenager.

Police probing the crash and a subsequent attack on the 33-year-old driver of the taxi have made no arrests and are asking for witnesses to get in touch.

The teenager, who suffered a fractured pelvis, remains in hospital, where her condition is "slowly improving", a police spokesman said.

The driver suffered facial injuries after his Vauxhall Zafira taxi was attacked by members of the public.

PC Paul Terry said: “There were a lot of people in the vicinity of Nelson Square at the time of this collision and also the subsequent attack on the taxi driver.

"I have no doubt that both incidents attracted a lot of attention from people who were in the area and we are asking for anyone that saw or heard anything to come forward and speak to us. Your information could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit directly on 0161 856 4742.
