A THUG who launched a vicious attack on his partner, in front of his one-year-old son, has been jailed for 10 years.

Jake Ramsden repeatedly punched Rebecca Vipond, with whom he has a one-year-old son Kaiden, a court heard.

The 21-year-old also attacked Leslie Holland, a man he considered a father figure, at an address in Huntroyde Avenue, Tonge Park, Bolton Crown Court was told.

Ramsden's sustained attack was such that blood was found spattered on his son's clothing. He and Ms Vipond had been in an on-off relationship since June, 2009.

Prosecuting, Peter Cadwallader said Ramsden disappeared for days at a time, and that a drugs problem meant that he had mood swings and his behaviour was unpredictable.

In the early hours of March 14, Ms Vipond went looking for Ramsden after he had disappeared, and decided to try Mr Holland’s house.

Mr Cadwallader said that Mr Holland was “very close” to Ramsden, and that he had helped to bring him up.

Ramsden eventually turned up, and was said to be angry that Ms Vipond was at Mr Holland’s flat.

Mr Cadwallader said he then proceeded to start punching and kicking them both, and that they were unable to fight back.

Ms Vipond was hit about 20 times, suffering bruising and cuts, and Mr Holland was hit at least four times but was more seriously injured after receiving repeated blows and kicks to the head.

His terrified partner tried to get out of the house with her son, but was unable to because the door was broken.

Mr Cadwallader said Ramsden was asking Mr Holland for drugs. Three bags of cocaine were later found in the house by police.

He said Ms Vipond told Ramsden that if he continued to kick and punch Mr Holland that he would kill him — to which Ramsden replied 'Good'.

But Ramsden left with Ms Vipond and the baby and went to her mother’s house, who was said to be shocked by her daughter’s injuries.

Police were called and officers arrived the next morning to find Mr Holland in bed struggling to breathe, with serious facial injuries.

A large pool of blood was found in the flat and blood had splattered onto the walls.

The court heard that pathologist Dr Naomi Carter found Mr Holland had suffered a fractured skull, a dislocated jaw, black eyes to both eyes and bruising on his arms and legs, and he had to be placed into an induced coma.

The 43-year-old has since been discharged, but his memory has been affected, his speech is impaired and he cannot fully close his right eye.

Judge Timothy Clayson sentenced Ramsden to 10 years in prison.

He was given an extended licence period of three years for the protection of the public, after the judge described him as a dangerous offender.

Judge Clayson said: "Mr Holland was begging you to stop, but the only thing that you were interested in was money and drugs.

"In the end he seems to have given a considerable amount of money."

Judge Clayson said the incident was “horrific” and had left both victims scarred.

He added: "She has recovered but said this was a horrific experience, as her very young son was present, and closely present, because blood probably from Leslie Holland ended up on his clothes.

“There is no statement from Mr Holland himself, which is some indication of the ongoing level of difficulties and disabilities that he suffers from.”

Ramsden, of Old Mill Close, Horwich, previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

He will serve six years and eight months in prison before he is considered for parole.
