SIX people across Bolton were arrested by police during a 24 hour crackdown on wanted offenders.

Officers from the town took part in the Greater Manchester wide Operation Olympus yesterday, which saw 88 of the region's most wanted offenders being arrested.

Offenders were arrested for a number of offences including rape, burglary, money laundering and assault.

Local neighbourhood policing teams were assisted on the day by specialist units including Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) intercept officers, tactical aid and the dog unit.

In comparison to Bolton, there was 14 arrests in Wigan, 13 in both Oldham and Bury and 11 in both Salford and Tameside.

Chief Inspector Chris Hill said: “The only target we set ourselves for the day was to make the communities of Greater Manchester safer and I think we have achieved that with a great return of 88 wanted people arrested in 24 hours.

“It was brilliant effort from everyone involved and, although the day of action has finished, we will continue to pursue those wanted by police, day and night.

“I hope the results here will send a clear message that it doesn’t matter what you are wanted for or where you are hiding, we are coming for you.”
