A CYCLIST is being hunted by police investigating a sexual assault in St George's Road.

Detectives have released CCTV footage of a suspect they wish to speak to in relation to the incident.

A 58-year-old woman was walking to work along Chorley New Road at 5.15am on June 4 when she saw a man on a bike approaching her from behind.

As she reached St George's Road, the man sexually assaulted her from behind, but the victim managed to break free and escape.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault but has been released without charge.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information.

The offender is described as a white male, aged about 25-years-old, approximately 5ft 10in and of slim build.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Duggan said: “We have been carrying out significant enquiries to try and trace this man and have previously issued still images of the suspect.

“We are now issuing moving CCTV footage and I would appeal to anyone that recognises this man, to contact police immediately. It was necessary to cut short the footage from the first camera angle as this individual went on to commit an indecent act whilst on CCTV.

“If anyone has any information that can lead to us catching this sexual predator then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 1911 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
