VEHICLES are being stolen in a spate of burglaries in which the car keys were left on show.

Bolton North Integrated Neighbourhood Policing Team said there had been 14 break-ins across its patch — which includes Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Bromley Cross, Heaton, Lostock, Horwich, Blackrod, Smithills, Tonge Moor and The Haulgh — in just a week.

The team posted on its own Facebook page: "Seven were through unlocked windows/doors.

"Five had keys on show which were stolen and the cars taken.

"Unfortunately one had the keys left in the outside of the door."

Residents are being warned to keep their keys out of sight at their property and to remember to lock their doors even if they "come home in a fluster" due to the worsening weather.

The team said: "We understand it’s a sad state of affairs that some think it’s acceptable to waltz in your house and take your hard-earned items but unfortunately the danger of it happening is very real.

"Local officers are working on getting out to the affected areas and making a plan to solve the issues."

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
